[Research Scientist, Biologics Generation & Analytics] We are
seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Scientist to join
Biologics Generation & Analytics (BGA) group of Global Biologics.
The ideal candidate will possess strong background in protein
production and characterization using mammalian expression
platforms and contribute to antigen and tool molecule production to
advance Takeda’s therapeutic discovery programs. A successful
candidate will collaborate with matrixed project teams, internal
protein production and analytical experts and execute protein
production requirements. Effective communication skills and the
ability to work within cross-functional teams are essential. The
successful candidate will: Design and engineer constructs for
protein expression, including reformatting antigens/antibodies and
applying advanced protein engineering solutions (innovative
non-antibody fusions and different modalities of therapeutics) to
improve expression performance. Perform protein expression using
mammalian expression system, including HEK293 and CHO cell lines at
small- to large-scale. The scope of expression work includes the
use of high-throughput automation system, shake flasks, to WAVE
bioreactor with perfusion setup. Support downstream process,
including purification and analytical characterization to ensure
high-sample quality that fits project needs. Evaluate and implement
new methods for transient and stable pools on protein expression
when appropriate. Maintain responsibility for routine laboratory
instrumentation and supplies. Document experiments thoroughly using
LIMS systems and communicate results within the team and
cross-functional groups. Desired qualifications include: PhD degree
in a scientific discipline (or equivalent), or MS with 6 years
relevant experience, or BS with 8 years relevant experience. Strong
preference for protein production experience in an industry
setting. Track record of hands-on experience with high-quality
protein production (construct design, expression, purification,
optimization, characterization) of antigens, antibodies and/or
other biologics therapeutics for drug discovery is required.
Experience in HEK- and CHO-based protein expression (transient and
stable) at a variety of scales, including plate-based formats and
fermenters or wave bioreactor, is required. Experience with
antibody purification approaches (including common chromatography),
with a track record of being able to adapt these protocols or
develop new ones for challenging antibodies and antigens, is highly
desirable. Strategic experiment planning, data interpretation,
summarization, and presentation with minimal supervision are
required. Effective verbal and written communication as well as
strong interpersonal skills are required. Experience managing
Co-ops, Research Associates and training fellow scientists is a
