Laboratory Systems Support Specialist - 20 hours, 1st Shift

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Clinical and Information Services Supervisor and with input from the Laboratory leadership team, performs a wide variety of system analyses to support the laboratory in the efficient use of the EHR system. Ensures that all activities are conducted in accordance to acceptable clinical technology, administrative policy, regulatory and accreditation requirements and medical ethics; correlates and interprets data based on an in-depth knowledge of technical, instrumental, and physiological conditions affecting test results. Provides technical product support to end users of the facility's electronic health records (EHR) system. Assists with testing of new release of software, vendor modifications, upgrades and patches. Troubleshoots problems, identifies possible solutions, and resolves technical issues identified (hardware/software). Troubleshoots errors, provides user support, and coordinates maintenance and updates of systems or data. Creates standard and ad hoc queries or reports and provides summaries or statistical analysis of laboratory-related data. Creates and maintains documentation and develops and delivers end-user training. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. Ability to work as part of a team.Report to: Clinical and Information Services Supervisor Manages: N/ACoordinates Assignments, Workflow, and Activities/Provides for Guidance: EHR, LIS, Lab BillingRequired Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:Minimum of one to three years' experience in system analysis in a healthcare setting. Experience with EHR/Laboratory applications and various proprietary or commercially available report writer tools highly desirable.Ability to test new software, interfaces and/or upgrades; ability to audit software applications, troubleshoot problems and evaluate alternate solutions. Ability to assist supervisor with EHR applications and testing; Demonstrates a familiarity with CPT coding, HCFA, HIPAA, and CLIA regulations.Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:Excellent command of oral and written English; demonstrates initiative, ingenuity, strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Ability to work well under pressure while managing multiple priorities is essential. Experience with Cerner Community Works, ARUP Laboratory, and charge master edits. Educational Requirements:Associate's degree in information technology, biological or physical science, or Medical technology.License/Certification: MT (ASCP), MT (HHS), CLS (NCA), M (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), or equivalent.Age Specific Criteria: Ability to effectively communicate to all age levels served within the scope of the position/assigned areas.
