Job Description:
Summary:
The Nurse Supervisor reporting to either the Administrative
Director Clinical Systems or the Manager Pediatric Nursing Staff
and Support Systems is the on-site administrator throughout the
hospital for a defined shift providing continuity of hospital
operations and assists and supports management and staff to achieve
hospital goals and standards. -Responsibilities:
Responds to administrative problems defines and resolves problems
in a professional and cordial manner to multiple demands from
customers. Communicates and serves as a resource and support for
all levels of hospital staff patients and families. Handles patient
and family situations in a way that takes into consideration
longer-term patient relationships. Presents complex information in
a logical and clear manner. Manages multiple tasks and determines
changes based on the needs of customers. Partners and collaborates
with all divisions and other departments and shares pertinent
information in a timely fashion. Interfaces with physicians.
Communicates with appropriate manager and/or executive regarding
events situations issues.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to direct the care
of patients. Knowledgeable of human development stages the aging
processes and cultural patterns. Provides clinical consultation to
nursing/ancillary staff or directs them to other resources.
Responds to and participates as needed in patient care emergencies.
Assists with the communication and interpretation of changes in
nursing practice activities and standards of care. Demonstrates a
high level of clinical and leadership knowledge and keeps up on
current trends in functional/technical areas. Provides direct
patient care as needed.
Supports professional nursing practice by enabling decision making
at lowest possible level. Involves others by accessing their
expertise and knowledge to solve problems.
Demonstrates ability to lead staff with culturally diverse needs
and abilities. Supervises all levels of staff performance for
consistent application of standards. Develops corrective action
plan in conjunction with the Clinical Manager to improve
performance or behavior. Builds and connects quality processes
across the system. Promotes quality patient care and utilizes
available resources to develop cost efficient delivery of patient
care services. Collaborates with Leadership Team and provides
feedback and documentation related to patient care issues.
Makes rounds to evaluate patient care and ensure maximum
utilization of staff. Serve as hospital consultant for all
services.
Supports and promotes the achievement of goals and standards for
patient care delivery within the organization.
Provides exemplary customer services focused on the patient/family
experience.
Implements disaster plans as required and assumes command until
administrator on call arrives.
Responds to Code Blue and similar hospital emergencies.
Coordinates the admission transfer and placement of all
patients.
Effectively uses resources by aligning staffing with patient care
needs.
Management of continuous quality improvement.
Promotes quality patient care and utilize all available resources
to develop cost efficient delivery of patient care services while
being fiscally responsible for use of resources such as supplies
materials technology and products.
Creates an environment that promotes active patient and family
participation in all aspects of informed decision-making.
Adherence and compliance to quality programs.
Mentor coach empower and provide timely and appropriate feedback to
staff on clinical decisions.
Collaborate with the leadership team and provide feedback and
documentation related to patient care and administrative
issues.
Participate as a member of organization-wide committees towards
planning and development.
In the absence of the Clinical Managers acts in their place.
Participates in and supports the plan to educate develop and orient
new staff. -Other information:
QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
ACLS and BLS certification.
Masters Degree preferred (Nursing or related Healthcare field
acceptable).
Consideration will be given to internal candidates committed to
completing a Masters program.
Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in
the State of Rhode Island.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to
patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging
processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each
step of the care process.
QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years progressive clinical experience plus two
years of administrative experience.
Strong interpersonal/negotiation/mediation skills and demonstrated
effective leadership in an environment with culturally diverse
needs and abilities of staff.
Maintains clinical competency in order to understand processes and
identify barriers to improve the quality of patient care.
Develops and maintains expertise in the field to address questions
and provide strategic direction for quality.
SUPERVISION:
Supervisory responsibility for up to 80-500 FTEs.
Directly responsible for float and Per Diem pool of nursing and
